Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) 

COCA is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as the accreditor of colleges of osteopathic medicine. COCA accreditation signifies that a college has met or exceeded the Commission’s standards for educational quality. The COCA only accredits osteopathic medical education programs operating in the United States.

New York State Education Department (NYSED) is the government agency responsible for overseeing education across the state of New York. It establishes educational standards, approves academic programs, and supervises public schools, colleges, and universities. NYSED also oversees teacher certification, professional licensure (including healthcare professions), state assessments, and educational compliance. Through its Office of Higher Education, it reviews and registers degree programs offered by institutions in New York. The department is governed by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and administered by the Commissioner of Education.

• Be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Permanent Resident
• Completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution
• Successful completion of the following admissions criteria:
• Pre-requisite coursework with a grade of “C” or higher (‘P’ or ‘S’ during
COVID) in each course - (see Admissions Requirements, Policy & Procedure
for the coursework required).
• MCAT – greater than or equal to 501 (50th percentile)
• Minimum GPA of 3.2 or greater
• Letters of Recommendation:
• Either three individual letters of recommendation (strongly prefer MD/DO
letter included) or a Pre-health Committee letter.
Prerequisites - All must be completed before matriculation with a grade of C or higher
from an accredited college or university:
• English: 6 semester hours only if your bachelor’s degree was earned at a college or
university where the primary language of instruction was not English
• Biology: 4 semester hours of lecture and lab
• General/Inorganic Chemistry: 8 semester hours of lecture and lab
• Organic Chemistry: 8 semester hours of lecture and lab - Biochemistry with or without lab may be substituted for Organic Chemistry II
• Physics: 4 semester hours with or without lab
• Mathematics and/or Computer Science: 3 semester hours
• Behavior Sciences: 6 semester hours - Disciplines such as psychology, sociology,
anthropology, and related fields
