Academic Progression and Graduation Requirements

Students enrolled in the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MSBS) program are expected to maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout the curriculum.

Academic Standing
Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher across all program coursework.

A student whose cumulative GPA falls below 3.0 at the conclusion of any academic term will be placed on academic probation for the following semester.

At the conclusion of the probationary semester:

  • Students who achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher will be returned to good academic standing.

  • Students who do not achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 may be continued on probation for one additional semester following review by the Program Director and Academic Progress Committee.

  • Students who fail to achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 following two consecutive semesters of probation will be subject to academic dismissal.

Course Performance Requirements
Students must earn a minimum grade of C in all courses.

Students may earn no more than two grades below B during the program.

Any course completed with a grade below C, or an unsuccessful grade in a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory course, must be repeated unless the student has been dismissed from the program.

A course may be repeated one time only.

Graduation Requirements
To qualify for graduation, students must:

  • Successfully complete all required coursework

  • Maintain a cumulative program GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Successfully complete and submit the required Capstone Project Report

  • Satisfy all institutional and program graduation requirements

Admission Requirements

Applicants seeking admission to the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences (MSBS) program must meet the following requirements:

  • Submit a completed application for admission.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation.
  • Submit a statement of intent describing academic background, professional goals, and reasons for pursuing graduate study in biomedical sciences.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or an equivalent international degree.
  • A minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale

Applicants must have completed the following prerequisite coursework with a minimum grade of C or higher in all required courses:

  • Biology I and II with laboratory instruction or Anatomy and Physiology I and II with laboratory instruction
  • General Chemistry I and II with laboratory instruction
  • Organic Chemistry I with laboratory instruction
  • Organic Chemistry II or Biochemistry
  • Genetics or an upper-level Biology course containing substantial Molecular Biology and Genetics content with laboratory instruction or biochemistry.
  • English Composition I and II or equivalent writing-intensive coursework

Applicants who do not meet all prerequisite requirements may be considered for admission on an individual basis at the discretion of the Admissions Committee.

The program uses a holistic admissions process that considers academic preparation, prior experiences, professional goals, and readiness for graduate-level biomedical education.
